Judges preferred its dark color and thick pour. Butterworth's syrup ($2.44 for 24 ounces from Wal-Mart) was close behind, with 69 points. Panelists used words like "classic," "necessary" and "beautiful" to describe the Log Cabin brand. Log Cabin's Country Kitchen syrup ($1.64 for 24 ounces from Wal-Mart) was the next choice, scoring 70 points and a nod from three of the four judges. ![]() It had a palate-pleasing balance and a hint of maple. The other judges liked the thinness of the syrup, compared with the sweet flavor. "This tastes just like my mom's homemade pancake syrup," said one panelist. Judges gave it 77 points three of the four said they would buy the brand. Their second choice was by Eggo ($3.29 for 23 ounces from Publix). "This would be even better warmed up," said one judge.Īnother said it had a woodsy, "right out of the log cabin" flavor. ![]() They liked the Aunt Jemima syrup for its deep-brown color, sweet flavor and thick texture. Panelists tried all 14 brands without pancakes. And they were surprised at the not-so-subtle differences. However, they were interested in the variety of pancake syrups on the market. Most of them would choose the real thing if given a choice. Taster's Choice judges had mixed syrup experiences. ![]()
